Swan Film School

We have decided to make some changes to our Film School.

Firstly the school has temporary closed for a few weeks. The Elysium Building is still being renovated and the noise and dust has made it difficult to continue. We understand that the work will finish by the end of March and so we will start again during April.

Secondly, we have changed to Swan Film Academy, bringing it in line with other similar film learning across the UK. It is much more professional and describes what we do . . . a place where students learn all the basics of film making from script-writing, through acting, filming and on to editing. Finally producing professional short films that our students can be proud to have made. Each term will be 12 weeks: term one laying out basic film-making principals; and the following terms building on this, making our students confident and with a shed-load of both work and social skills.

Help your teenager build real confidence, communication skills and leadership through professional filmmaking in a structured, safe, professional studio environment using professional equipment and experienced team-leaders.

From Shy to Confident. At the Swan Film Academy, students progress from short introductions to confidently presenting their own films at a public showcase where they take pride in their achievements.

Filmmaking is the vehicle. Confidence is the result.

• Speak clearly and confidently
• Work in creative teams
• Take leadership roles
• Solve problems under pressure
• Present ideas publicly

Our fully equipped studios have professional cameras together with sound and lighting, a mixing/live editing console, autocue, large green-screen wall and selection of backdrops. We are based in central Swansea, near the Dragon hotel and the venue is fully accessible. We welcome all teenagers who are seriously interested in learning film craft.

Swansea is particularly attractive to film-makers with such a diverse environment. We will make the most of this by filming in both the studio but also around the city; at the Castle, on the beach, in the countryside, out in Oystermouth and around the many historical sites.

We are limiting numbers to 20 students and up to 5 sponsored scholarships. Each student will have the opportunity to carry out all the aspects of film-making but this will not be compulsory: we want each student to feel comfortable and have a free choice. We know that some will want to act whilst others will be intrigued by the technical aspects. Some may just want to make props or support the film crew.

We will be holding Open Days when you can see our studios, watch some previously made films and meet the instructors. The first Open Days will be Saturday 7th March 11am to 3pm and Wednesday 1th March 6 to 9.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, just confirm with a text so we know how many to expect on 07964827959.

So with limited spaces I would suggest that you contact us immediately by e-mail at ask@swantv.com giving your name and contact number. Alternatively text or Whatsapp us giving your e-mail and name. We will send an application form.
